&&& CPI的目的主要是预测人们在特定情景下的行为以及确定被以人际意义评价和描述的个体。从这一实用性观点出发，作者认为衡量量表价值的标准在于测验对人的划分与其他人对其划分相符合的程度，以及将测验分数用于预测与验证某些行为的准确性。&&&
&&& CPI的应用范围亦十分广泛，在教育心理方面，可用于对学业成就，创造性潜能的预测，并可为专业选择提供指导；在管理心理方面，可用于对应聘者的管理潜能，工作绩效的预测提供参考。在国外被认为是一项在人员选拔方面有较大潜力的测验。此外，还用来对A型行为、违法及心理病理等方而的研究和预测。87年版CPI手册中还列出了34种不同职业群体样组的测量数据以及与32种其它心理测验的相关研究资料，为我们对各量表性能的理解提供了丰富的效度资料。
