成语故事—八仙过海英文意译
&&&&& 八仙过海&,道教掌故之一。&八仙&一般是指铁拐李、汉锺离、蓝采和、张果老、何仙姑、吕洞宾、韩湘子、曹国舅,这八位神仙人物。在传说中,八仙各有不同的法器,铁拐李有铁杖,汉锺离有鼓,张果老有纸叠驴,吕洞宾有长剑及箫管,何仙姑有竹罩、韩湘子有花篮、曹国舅有玉版,蓝采和有大拍板。他们随身所携带的法器各有妙用。
&&&&& 八仙过海是精彩的八仙故事之一。其生动的记述见于明吴元泰之《东游记》。该书写八位神仙人物好打抱不平,惩恶扬善。有一天,他们一起到了东海,只见潮头汹涌,巨浪惊人。吕洞宾建议各以一物投于水面,以显&神通&而过。其他诸位仙人都响应吕洞宾的建议,将随身法宝投于水面,然后立于法宝之上,乘风逐浪而渡。
&&&&& 汉钟离率先把大芭蕉扇往海里一扔,坦胸露腹仰躺在扇子上,向远处漂去。何仙姑将荷花往水中一抛,顿时红光万道,仙姑伫立荷花之上,随波漂游。随后,吕洞宾、张果老、曹国舅、铁拐李、韩湘子、蓝采和也纷纷将各自宝物抛入水中,借助宝物大显神通,游向东海。
&&&&& 八仙的举动惊动了龙宫,东海龙王率虾兵蟹将出海观望,言语间与八仙发生冲突,引起争斗。恰好南海观音菩萨经过,喝住双方,并出面调停,双方罢战。
&&&&& 后来,人们把这个掌故用来比喻那些依靠自己的特别能力而创造奇迹的事。
