A friend asked me for this question. There're kinds of ways to express it. Let's see whose answer is the best one.
要将汉语的成语翻译成地道的英语颇不容易，一般不宜直译，意译为妥。dragon在英国文学和文化传统中代表残暴和邪恶，绝无中国“龙”的文化内涵。在“望子成龙，望女成凤”这一组成语中，“龙”与“凤”当为比喻--“龙”喻“须眉豪杰、才子文豪”，“凤”喻“巾帼英雄、才女佳人”，皆人中之杰。据此，不妨将这组成语译为：Parents would expect that their son be turned out a talented hero and their daughter a (talented)&&heroine. (或套用一些俚语用词：Parents would expect that their son be turned out a big man and their daughter a big-timer. 但似乎有点俗气了。）
eager for his boy above all boys,and his girl above all girls.
这句翻译的灵感来自那篇莎士比亚的评价：“Shakespeare is above all writers.”
另外，我觉得用“hope”不能体现出渴望的感觉，所以就用了“eager for”！嘿嘿这是我的翻译！

Phoenix is stand for beauty and sacred，而凤凰的寓意则来自古埃及的神话楼主 这句话翻译成英文是不能把龙凤翻译进去了 如果你不明白 我给你解释一下,also the is super king of all animals，表示了”重生” 如果你要强行将龙凤翻译到句子中，比如“All of Chinese parents expect their son to grow as a dragon, or expect the daughter to grow as a phoenix(In chinese traditional culture。这句话只能翻译成 expect his son&#47,dragon is stand peace and powerful，只能用注释的手法了，会让外国人莫名不知所以，这刚好是我的论文内容- -）当然 你一定一定要翻译进去，这是因为动物本体相同，龙和凤在中西方文化里面的意义是完全不同的;daughter to become successful - -（顺便说一句，但是文化喻体不同所导致的，龙在西方代表的邪恶，狡猾：动物隐喻中

楼上的说法没错，很多翻译不能直译，要意译。望子成龙，望女成凤的最终愿望就是希望孩子有一个美好的未来。所以翻译成： hope one's children will have a bright future 就好了。还是我们大国中文有深度啊！哈哈！
