No way, not me anyway. Maybe someone had kicked her out of their car the night before. "We're moving house.'; "No space for her any more with the baby coming." "We never really wanted her, but what could we have done? She was a present." People find all sorts of excuses for abandoning an animal. And she was one of the most beautiful dogs I had ever seen. I called her Goldie. If I had known what was going to happen I would have givenher a more creative name. She was so unsettled during those first few days. She hardly ate anything and had such an air of sadness about her. There was nothing I could do to make her happy, it seemed. Heaven knows what had happened to her at her previous owner's. But eventually at the end of the first week she calmed down. Always by my side, whether we were out on one of our long walks or sitting by the fire. That's why it was such a shock when she pulled away from me one day when we were out for a walk. We were a long way from home, when she started barking and getting very restless. Eventually I couldn't hold her any longer and she raced off down the road towards a farmhouse in the distance as fast as she could. By the time I reached the farm I was very tired and upset with Goldie. But when I saw her licking (舔) the four puppies (幼犬) I started to feel sympathy towards them. "We didn't know what had happened to her," said the woman at the door. "I took her for a walk one day, soon after the puppies were born, and she just disappeared." "She must have tried to come back to them and got lost," added a boy from behind her. ' I must admit I do miss Goldie, but I've got Nugget now, and she looks just like her mother. Have you ever picked a job based on the fact that you
were good at it but later found it made you feel very uncomfortable over time?
When you select your career, there's a whole lot more to it than assessing your
skills and matching them with a particular position. If you ignore your
personality, it will hurt you long-term regardless of your skills or the job’s
pay. There are several areas of your personality that you need to consider to
help you find a good job. Here are a few&&
1) Do you prefer working alone or with other people?
There are isolating jobs that will drive an outgoing
person crazy and also interactive jobs that will make a shy person uneasy. Most
people are not extremes in either direction but do have a tendency that they
prefer. There are also positions that are sometimes a combination of the two,
which may be best for someone in the middle who adapts easily to either
situation.
2) How do you handle change?
Most jobs these days have some elements of change to
them, but some are more than others. If you need stability in your life,
you may need a job where the changes don’t happen so often. Other people would
be bored of the same daily routine.
3) Do you enjoy working with computers?
I do see this as a kind of personality characteristic.
There are people who are happy to spend more than 40 hours a week on a
computer, while there are others who need a lot of human interaction throughout
the day. Again, these are extremes and you'll likely find a lot of positions
somewhere in the middle as well.
4) What type of work environment do you enjoy?
This can range from being in a large building with a
lot of people you won’t know immediately to a smaller setting where you'll get
to know almost all the people there fairly quickly.
5) How do you like to get paid?
Some people are motivated by the pay they get, while
others feel too stressed to be like that. The variety of payment designs in the
sales industry is a typical example for this.
Anyway, these are a great starting point for you. I've
seen it over and over again with people that they make more money over time
when they do something they love. It may take you a little longer, but making a
move to do what you have a passion for can change the course of your life for
the better.
1.What
is unnecessary in your job hunting?
A.Assessing your skills
B.Taking your personality
into consideration
C.Matching your skills with
a position
D.Going to different areas
2.
Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Isolating usually drive people mad.&&&&&&&
B. Interactive jobs make people shy easily.
C. Extreme people tend to work with others.

3.The
underlined word “stability” in the passage most probably means?
A.no anger.&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& B.&
no movement.&&&&&&&&&&&& C.

What could be the best title for this passage?

CIf you’re in charge of a project, the key to success is getting everyone to want to help you. As a director, I suggest, I gently push the actors in the direction I want them to go.In the 1986 movie Nothing in Common, Jackie Gleason’s character, Max Basner, gets fired from his job as a clothing salesman. The scene, shot on a boat, shows Max’s hopelessness about being out of work. I was looking for some ways that would allow Max to show his feelings.Jackie had far more experience at everything than I did, and at first I was frightened. What could I possibly tell “The Great One” about acting? Out of fear I decided to direct by suggestion, and I sat down with Gleason to talk about the scene.“So Max is sad, right?” I said.Gleason nodded.“And he’s probably still carrying his pens with his name on them-the ones he used to hand out to his customers, right?”Gleason nodded.“So what would you want to do with the pens after you were fired?”He was silent for a moment. “Why don’t I throw them overboard?”I stood up and turned toward the crew. “Hey, everybody, Jackie has a wonderful idea. Let’s shoot it.”After filming the scene, Gleason called me over and said with a smile, “Garry, what kind of wonderful idea am I going to have tomorrow?”You and your team can discover the answers to problems tighter. When there are no prizes or gold stars for those who get the solution first, you’ll all benefit when everything turns out right.63. The writer tells us that, to succeed in the project you are in charge of, you should _______. A. make everyone work for you&&&&&&&&&&&&&B. get everyone willing to help you C. let people know you have the final say&&&D. keep giving orders to everyone64. From the passage we can know _________. A. Jackie Gleason is the director of the film Nothing in Common B. Jackie Gleason is very angry when he is fired from his job C. Max, a character in the film, is in very low spirits when he loses his job D. Jackie Gleason writes the play of the film Nothing in Common65. The underlined part “The Great One” (in Paragraph 3) refers to __________. A. Gleason&&&&& B. the director himself&&&&&& C. Max&&&&&&&& D. Max’s boss66. Why did Gleason call the director over and smile at him? A. Gleason thought his wonderful idea was accepted by the director. B. Gleason succeeded in hitting upon a wonderful idea. C. Gleason was confident about his work the next day. D. Gleason appreciated the director’s way of directing films.

The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn’t know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being.
She said, “Hi, girl! My name is Rose. I’m 87 years old. Can I give you a hug?”
I laughed and enthusiastically(热情地)responded, “Of course you may!” and she gave me a giant squeeze.
&& “Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?” I asked. She jokingly replied, “I’m here to meet a rich husband, get married, have a couple of children, and then retire and travel!”
&“No seriously,” I said. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age.
&“I always dreamed of having a college education and now I’m getting one!” she told me.
Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up.
At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet. I’ll never forget what she taught us.
&“We do not stop playin we grow old because we stop playing. There are only two secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor everyday. You’ve got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die!” she said.
&“There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don’t do one productive thing, you will turn 20 years older. If I am 87 years old, and stay in bed for a year, and never do anything, I will turn 88. Anybody can grow older. But every minute counts for young men,” she added.
&“The idea is to grow up by always finding the opportunity in change. Have no regrets. The elderly usually don’t have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets.”
She concluded her speech by courageously singing “The Song of Rose”. She challenged each of us to study the lyrics(歌词)and live them out in our daily lives.
At the year’s end, Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago. One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep.

The first thing my host father “warmed” me was that almost everyone in America was a big hugger. I didn’t understand what he meant until my first party. Whether they were friends or strangers, teenagers or elders, girls or guys, everyone I met gave me a big hug. However, as time went on, I began to understand America’s hugging culture. When a friend broke up with me, I was sad. When I told my best American friend about it, she said nothing but put her arms around me. Then warmth of the hug was a greater comfort than anything she could have said to me. One winter day I was walking along the street, shivering(颤抖). It was then I saw two women, each holding a paper board, on which there were two words:FREE HUGS. Their were red because of the freezing weather and they were jumping up and down to keep themselves warm. “Hi, girl! Do you want a hug?” One of them asked me. I went up and opened my arms. The hug was short but warm and it took some of the coldness of the day away. After that I became a big hugger myself. One time my host father and I were traveling to another town. When we reached a restaurant where my friend Cindy worked, he stopped the car.“What’ wrong?” I asked.” “Alice, why don’t you go inside and give Cindy a hug?” He suggested. I went into the restaurant, ran straight up to Cindy, and gave her a hug before she realized what was going on. “That was a big surprise! And you got my day sweetie! ” She told me later. A hug is a way to communicate love and care. Do you want a hug?
