A CHARITY set up in memory of a Bury boy has been given a massive boost and nationwide exposure.
The Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity was set up in memory of the youngster who died aged 14 in late 2015 after suffering from a brain tumour for 11 years.
Nicknamed Super Josh, the youngster inspired people across the borough and beyond and captured the hearts of rugby league players at Salford Red Devils, who have supported the charity and Josh's mother, Dawn Fidler.
Their player Josh Griffin is a patron for the charity, which helps children who have or have had a brain tumour and their families.
In perhaps the club's greatest show of support to the good cause to date, the players donned a special shirt, emblazoned with a Super Josh logo, for their latest match against Widnes Vikings, played before 36,000 fans in Newcastle on Saturday.
And Josh's special jersey certainly brought the Reds luck, as they clinched a much-needed 18-12 victory.
Some of the cash raised in shirt sales will go to the charity and the players are set to auction off their own jerseys for the good cause.
Dawn, who founded the charity, said: "I had goosebumps when the players came onto the pitch with my boy's logo on. I couldn't help the tears.
"Thank you so much to the team at Salford Red Devils and (shirt manufacturers) Raging Bull for doing this for Josh.
"Josh was with us all on Saturday and I know he will have been buzzing at the win and so, so proud.
"It is a day I will never forget."
The gesture is expected to raise thousands of pounds for the charity and Dawn said she delighted with the publicity it got.
Throughout the match, which many watched on Sky Sports during the build-up to the FA Cup final, the commentators made several references to the charity and Josh's story.
After the match, player Daniel Vidot, who scored two tries, dedicated the victory to Josh.
"We were very happy to get the win for him and the atmosphere was amazing.
"We went in (4-14 behind) at half time and talked about getting ourselves back into the grind and we came out and got ourselves back into it in the second half.
"Everybody was delighted to get the win."
