　　鼻炎和哮喘常同时存在，从而支持“一个呼吸道，一种疾病”的概念。同其他已知的危险因素一样，过敏性鼻炎也是哮喘的危险因素之一。过敏性鼻炎的炎症反应并不完全局限于鼻腔，多种伴发病与过敏性鼻炎有关。[-hzh-]
　　一般在有过敏性鼻炎的患者中伴有支气管哮喘的有38%，而在普通人群中只有2%～5%。明显要高很多，因此过敏性鼻炎和哮喘之间联系是很密切的。哮喘和鼻炎常发生于同一患者，很多鼻炎患者同时患有哮喘；很多过敏性鼻炎患者有非特异性支气管反应性增高的现象。
　　支气管哮喘是过敏性鼻炎最常见、最重要的伴发病。如果对过敏性鼻炎及其对哮喘的影响认识不足，重视不够，治疗常常顾此失彼，贻误病情。约80%兼有哮喘和过敏性鼻炎的病例报告显示，过敏性鼻炎在哮喘之前或与哮喘同时发病，这说明哮喘是过敏性鼻炎的延伸，或过敏性鼻炎可向哮喘“推进”。
　　在患有过敏性鼻炎的患者中哮喘的发病率为20%～40%。大大高于正常人群的2%～5%，因此，过敏性鼻炎患者发生哮喘的危险性比正常人高8～20倍。有相当多的哮喘患者在哮喘发作前有过敏性鼻炎症状，如能及时对过敏性鼻炎采取有效的治疗措施，可避免哮喘的发作。
