be able to
shall not/shan’t
will not/won’t
1、can和could(could是can的过去式)的基本用法:
us can use the computer now,but
we couldn't three years ago.
can go now.
I could borrow his bike.
thought the story could not be true.
earth can this mean?
you wait a few days for the money?
you be here at eight o'clock tomorrow morning?
(3)can(主观)和be
is able to do it. (No one can do it. )
be able to finish the work next week.
haven't been able to find the book.
(were) able to。另外,was(were)
could swim,but
he didn’t jump into the water to save the girl.
was able to swim half way before he collapsed.
2、may和might(might是may的过去式)的基本用法:
not(mustn't)代替may
may go now.
that I might borrow his bike.
I watch TV after supper? ――
―Yes,you
may.
mustn't. 或No,you
may not. 或No,you'd
better not. )
Might
I. . . ?代替May
I use your telephone?
may be right.
there may be a few copies left.
may come today(tomorrow).
might come today(tomorrow).
might have some fever.
3、must,have
to和ought to的基本用法:
否定式must
Everybody must obey the rules.
must be finished as soon as possible.
mustn't lend it to others.
mustn't speak like that to your mother.
not(needn’t)或don’t
have to,表示“不必”,而不用must
not,因为must
I be home before eight o'clock?
―Yes,you
must. (―No,you
needn't. 或―No,you
don't have to.
have
must go now.
have to go now.
don't have to worry about that.
had to spend his childhood in hard work, helping
his father on their small farm.
students of today will have to know how to use the computers of
tomorrow.
boy like me couldn't go to school in those days. That's why I already had
to work when I was your age.
(4)ought
ought to follow your father's advice.
emperor thought that he ought to have nothing to fear for himself.
he to go?
think he ought (to).
needn't pay for it.
you go now?
must. (No,I
needn't.
dare you say I'm unfair?
dare not do so.
need to think it over.
need to know it?
didn't need to go.
dares to go?
dare to ask her.
shall do as I say.
that he shall have the book tomorrow.
I promise that you shall et the book
tomorrow.
Don't worry. You shall see them again
before long.
Everything shall be done to save the
ship.
The new regulation shall take effect on
June 1st.
As a man sows, so he shall
reap.
shall I wait for you?
he come at once?
we start the meeting now?
should keep your promise.
should be strict in all our work.
people should learn how to use computers.
will tell you all about it.
help him if he asks us (to).
won't go.
going down to the shop after school. Will you go with me?
you please give him a message when you see him?
you sit down?
will die out of water.
talk for hours if you give him the chance.
said that they would help us.
promised that I would do my best.
you like some more bananas?
like to see your ten-speed bicycles.
you like to see a film?
―Yes,I'd
like to. (Thanks.
I'm afraid I won't be able to.
would sit like that for hours.
day she would get up at six o'clock and light the fire.
used to get up at six. (But now he gets up at 6:30.
四、虚拟猜测与推断用法:表示“可能”意义的may、might、can、could的把握程度为约50%(程度大小依次为:can,may,could,might),属于猜测,与would,should,need,ought
should have thought of that.
shouldn't have left so soon.
needn't have told them that.
could he have gone?
ought to have given you more help.
might at least have answered my letter.
may have read about it in the papers.
must be hungry after the long walk.
Chinese language must have the largest number of speakers.
No,no,this
can't be true!
must have arrived by now.
have finished the work so soon.
father thought that she must have met a fairy.
