The Spring Festival is the most important festival for the Chinese. It is the Chinese New Year when all family members get together, just like Christmas in the West. All the people living away from home go back.
It is usually in January or February and lasts about 15 days long. Two weeks before the Spring Festival, people have started to clean their houses and get all the materials needed ready. People celebrate the Spring Festival in many ways. They put scrolls on the wall and play firecrackers in many parts of China for good fortune. On the eve of the Spring Festival, all family members have a big dinner and watch the Spring Festival Gala together. On the Chinese New Year’s Day, children wear new clothes. People visit relatives and friends and wish one another good wishes. Everybody is happy.
For adult, the Spring Festival is a time when they can have a good rest. For children it is like carnival because they can have delicious food and wear new clothes. Another reason is that they get red packets from their parents and relatives. This money is supposed to bring children good luck.
