　　【概况】共和镇位于平川区东部，西距区政府所在地22千米。东接黄峤乡，南、北与靖远县相连，西与宝积乡毗邻。面积291.3平方千米，人口3854户、19420人（2008年末）。辖1个社区、9个行政村，46个村民小组。地处山区，平均海拔1760米。年均降雨量230毫米，年均气温10℃，全年无霜期170天。有煤炭、沸石、花岗岩、金矿床、矿泉水等资源。白宝铁路、共辘公路、平高公路、省道308线穿境而过。景点有屈吴山、龙凤山、红军长征打拉池会师遗址。
　　【沿革】1958年设立共和公社，1983年改乡。1996年，面积610平方千米，人口2.9万人，辖兄弟、中和、毛卜拉、小水、老庄、红沟、毛河洛、常崖、牛拜、马饮水、双铺、神木头、焦口、峤山、西合15个行政村。1997年4月，将峤山村、焦口村、神木头村、双铺村、马饮水村和牛拜村划出设立黄峤乡。2005年2月，撤销共和乡设立共和镇。2011年，总面积291.79平方千米，总人口人，其中农业人口19031人，城镇人口1799人。
