In the United States, medical information about patients traditionally has been recorded and stored on paper forms. However, there are efforts to persuade doctors to adopt electronic medical record systems in which information about patients is stored in electronic databases rather than on paper. It is argued that storing patients' medical records in electronic databases has several advantages over traditional paper-based record keeping.Reducing CostsFirst, the use of electronic records can help reduce costs by saving money on storing and transferring medical records. While paper records require a significant amount of storage space, electronic medical records take up virtually no space. Moreover, by having patients' records computerized in databases, doctors can easily access the records from almost anywhere and can easily duplicate and transfer them when necessary. This costs much less than copying, faxing, or transporting paper records from one location to another.Preventing ErrorsSecond, electronic medical records are crucial to reducing the chances of medical errors. Illegible handwriting, improper transcription of data, and nonstandard organization of paper records have caused errors that in some cases have had serious consequences for the patients' health. In contrast, electronic records are associated with standardization of forms and legible computer fonts and thus minimize the possibility of human error.&Aiding ResearchThird, electronic medical records can greatly aid medical research by making it possible to gather large amounts of data from patient records. It is often impractical, impossible, or prohibitively expensive to manually go through thousands of patients’ paper records housed in doctors' offices. However, with the existence of electronic medical records, it would be simple to draw out the needed information from the medical databases because the databases are already formatted for data collection. Once in the electronic system, the records could be accessed from any research location.& && &Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific points made in the reading passage.
The professor's lecture casts doubt on the reading one the topic that using the electronic medical record systems has advantages. Providing the contradictory view.
First, the author points out that using electronic medical record systems can avoid wasting money by using the paper record. However, the professor argues that using electronic medical record systems actually cannot save money. Because most of doctors are still use paper records and keep them although they also use the electronic medical record systems at same time due to the legal reason or some others. Thus using electronic medical record systems cannot reduce the storage place.
Second, the reading claims that using electronic medical record systems is unlikely to make mistakes due to the bad handwriting. On the contrary, the professor challenge that although some doctor are using the electronic medical record systems, they still using the paper to write down the examine information of patients. the other doctor will enters this information in the computer. Thus the bad handwriting will still have the bad influence on records.
Finally, the article states that using the electronic medical record systems can help researcher to find the relevant information rapidly. Nevertheless, the lecture stresses that electronic medical record systems cannot help people to research, Since there is the extremely strict private policy which is used to protect the people's private information. Researchers need to ask each individual if they need data, and each people can refuse this requirement for any reasons, which makes it even more difficult to get the information to research.

Question:Question: Summarise the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on specific points made in the reading passage. The reading passage contends that storing patients\\\' medical records in electrical databases has several dvantages over traditional paper-based record keeping. The listening material completely refutes the reading. It is pointed in he listening that the benifits of eletrical medical database are actually uncertain.
First, the point, stated in the reading passage, is that the use of electrical records can help reduce costs by saving money on storing and transfering medical records. IN contrast, the listening passage holds the opposite opinion and believes that the electrical database is unlikely as significant as it suggests. It cannot saving the space. The doctors usually will not throw out the records, and they keepl it as&&emergency backup. They use signature for some legal reasons. Therefore, there still need to pay storage for database.
second, the reading passage contends that electrical records are crucial to reducing the chances of medical errors, but the speaker in the listening passae says that the errors probably cannot eliminate the errors made by poor handwrting. the doctors still use handwrting to take notes and prescribe. The staff need to type the data from paper to computer system, during that process, the erros could be made. There are difficulties for the staff to interprete the poor handwriting.
Third, the author, in the reading passage, believes that electrical medical records can greatly aid medical research by making it possible to gather largeamounts of data from patient records. However, the lecturer in the listening argues that the elcetrical records are not neccessarily, because it is difficult to use the information. The records are the patients\\\' privacy, and the laws about privacy is strict. The users have to obey the strict and complicated laws and get the permission from the patients. Often, the patient will block the use of their recors for any purpose except their own treatment.
In conclusion, the proffesor had pointed out the inconsistences between the reading and listening psaage and explained why the argument in the speech are more reliable.
