>>>Penguins are lovely animals. Most people like them. But no..
Penguins are lovely animals. Most people like them. But now as many as 10 of the 17 kinds of penguins are in danger of disappearing. The number of penguins has decreased by ( 减少了) 30% since 1987.Penguins are black and white birds that live in the southern part of the world. They are common in the Antarctic Continent (南极大陆) ,New Zealand, Australia and South America. Many live near cold waters (水域). But some live near warm waters in Galapagos Islands. Penguins& cannot fly, but& they are fine swimmers. The shape of their body helps them to survive. Penguins eat fish and krill& (磷虾). They have short wings that help them to dive up to 900 feet to catch larger fish. They can swim 10-15 kilometers an hour which lets them protect themselves. They also have lots of body oil that helps in keeping them dry in the water. The warming of the earth is the reason for the decrease in the number of penguins. The hotter and hotter air has caused ocean waters to become warmer. Higher water temperature has decreased the fish and krill. Some years later these birds are completely unable to reproduce. And many adult penguins die of hunger.Too much fishing, exploration for oil and oil leaks (泄漏) also make penguins be in danger. Poisonous things in ocean waters are another danger. Penguins also have their enemies, including sharks, seals and sea lions.小题1:Penguins can do the following except________.A.divingB.flyingC.swimmingD.catching fish小题2:Which of the following is NOT the reason for the decrease in the number penguins?A.The warming of the earth.B.Too much fishing.C.Natural disasters.D.Poisonous things in ocean waters.小题3:What does the underlined word "reproduce" mean?A.繁殖B.灭绝C.迁徙D.觅食小题4: What’s the passage mainly about?A.Fish and krill have decreased.B.Ocean waters are polluted.C.Sharks and seals are the enemies of pen&guins.D.The decrease in the number of penguins.

小题1:B小题1:C小题1:A小题1:D本文讲的是企鹅数量的减少以及减少的原因。1.&B 此题是细节题。从Penguins cannot fly, but& they are fine swimmers可知企鹅不能飞,选B。

KFC(肯德基), one of the most famous fast-food chains, saw its reputation in China shaken because of “quick chicken”. Recent years, KFC has ever shocked us more than once because of its food safety, which made itself in severe trust crisis. Now it greatly surprised us again owing to the poultry(禽肉)incident. We could never believe it should have cheated us again and again. In fact, as a well-known restaurant chain, KFC’s business records at China’s is not very good. There’s no doubt that the very incident has made things worse and worse. However, what surprised us is that although a series of misdeeds had reduced KFC’s reputation, its business is increasing. In addition, it would be a good idea to call on the media to perform its further function to monitor the businesses, factories and traders. Besides, everybody should be made aware of the risks of harmful food and only in this way can people improve their self-protection. The structure and workings of the university are ever changing. The university of the past is not like the university of the present and the university of the present will not be like the university of the future. This “adaptation” to the times is what can make some universities great or make some universities among the worst in the nation. In the past the university was very set in their ways. They did things the way they wanted them done. They paid no attention to the rest of the society and the way the ones paying the bills wanted them done. In the past the professors would lecture endlessly to the students, which often left the students bored and with no idea what was really said to them in the lecture. This is no way to tr students need interaction with the professors that are paid to teach them. As Paulo Freire believed there needs to be communication between the students and the professors and the class should not be totally memorization. This is the way that things were done in the past. In the present many universities have either changed or are changing the way that they run their universities. The universities now are taking on many of the modern educational beliefs in order to make changes in the teaching methods. Universities are breaking down many of the divides between majors that they offer. By breaking these barriers the universities are becoming less specialized and more diverse. This goes along with the ideas of Berry who believes that the schools are over-specialized and that the universities are now just machines that are merely meant to produce workers. In the past few years the colleges have been lowering the standards of admission, which in turn lowers the standards of all the schools below the college level. The universities are now on the right track by increasing the standards of admission into their colleges. 小题1:In the author’s view, what can decide a university’s quality?A.What its structure is like.B.How its workings are run.C.What times it belongs to.D.Whether it’ll adjust itself.小题2:Which of the following is NOT a feature of universities in the past?A.They were run in a fixed way.B.They ignored the needs of society.C.They had lower standards of admission.D.Professors lacked interaction with students.小题3:What is the author’s main attitude towards universities in the present?A.Positive.B.Doubtful.C.Passive.D.Uncertain.小题4:What would the author most probably focus on in the following part of this passage?A.Universities in the future.B.The standards of schools.C.The admission into some colleges.D.Other changes of teaching methods.

Are you an optimist? Do you look at your glass and see it as half full? Do you believe that every cloud has a silver lining and that things generally turn out for the best? Do you believe that if something is meant to be, it will be? If you reply “yes” to all of these questions, then you are an optimist. You probably are enthusiastic, cheerful and outgoing. You may be successful at work and in love. But you may be misguided because things don’t turn out for the best. You may believe that when one door closes another one opens (for example, you may fail another chance will come around soon). Wrong. When one door closes, another door slams (砰然关上) in your face. That’s bitter reality. Now a book has been published which confirms what pessimists (悲观者) have suspected all along. It’s called The Positive Power of Defensive Pessimism. Its author argues that defensive pessimism can lead to positive results. Defensive pessimism is a strategy used to manage fear, anxiety and worry. Defensive pessimists prepare for the things by setting low outcomes for themselves. They carefully consider everything that may go wrong and plan for ways to handle these problems. And this gives them a sense of control. Lawrence Sanno, a psychology professor, says, “What’s interesting about defensive pessimists is that they tend to be very successful people, so their low opinion of the situation’s outcomes is not realistic. They use it to motivate themselves to perform better.”So far, so good. This is not rocket science. Defensive pessimists prepare carefully and consider what might go wrong, whether at work, on date or even in a sports game. It makes sense to have a back-up plan. There are many sayings in English urging caution. For example, “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.” And “Don’t count your chickens until they hatch.” To have a confident and optimistic approach to life’s problems is good. But listen to what Woody Alien, the American comedian says, “Confidence is what you have before you understand the problem.”There are pros and cons to being an optimist and a pessimist. Don’t feel bad if you see the glass half empty. You are a realist. But lighten up and hook up with someone who sees the same glass half full.小题1:What’s the passage mainly about?A.A book that has recently been published.B.How to become successful in life.C.The dangers of being too optimistic.D.The benefits of defensive pessimism.小题2:The underlined sentence “This is not rocket science” (Para. 4) means __________.A.it’s not a dangerous thing to doB.it is quite simple to understandC.the cost is not so highD.there is no real proof小题3:Which of the following English expressions would a defensive pessimist believe?A.Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.B.The glass is half full not half empty.C.Whatever will be, will be.D.Every cloud has a silver lining.小题4:The writer would probably describe himself as __________.A.an optimist B.a defeatist C.a realist D.a scientist
