However, it wasn’t quite right. I had bad breath all the time and seriously bad farts.
The next big breakthrough came with the Whole 30 diet. This is getting quite close to the diet I have now adopted, but I’ll get to that later. On this diet, I put on a stone (I had since lost the weight I put on with Tim Ferris’ methods).
Next up, I pretty much just added whey protein to my diet and there it was at last, my ultimate, no stomach problem, weight gain formula. I put on a stone and a half (I was working out six days a week). I was happier than I had ever been.
If you’ve never been a really slight person then you will have to just think back to when you were a kid and most people were bigger than you. It’s a bit crappy still being that light-weight even when you are supposed to be a grown man. To finally have found a way to gain and maintain weight was like the holy grail for me. Inevitably, perhaps, I eventually got into a load of bad habits (eating gluten and so on), and I lost the weight again. So, I went back to . Then I found that I could only be vegan by eating loads of pre-prepared food, containing so many ingredients it was untrue. So I ditched that.
Now I am basically Whole 30, plus Whey protein powder. I have put the weight back on, and I think I can go for the burn and get up to a higher weight than I have ever been – I’m aiming for eleven stone. To put this in context, I am five feet and ten inches tall. Eleven stone is not overweight by any stretch of the imagination, but I have to eat about six times a day to get up to that. I’m starting to move towards the keto diet too, which focuses on high fat, moderate protein and low carbs. I definitely do better when I’m not stuffing bread and pasta. I’m going to research more into the keto diet because it looks really promising for the future. My wife follows it, but she tells me it’s a bit different for women compared to men. Ultimately, my own happiness and well-being when I am this little bit heavier and stronger has outweighed any other concern. If I could afford by own vegan chef, then I might behave differently, but I can’t. Am I being selfish? Probably, but the bottom line is that no one is going to look out for me on my behalf.
