Garbage is unwanted or unusable materials. As long as there are people on the planet, there will be garbage .Garbage is directly linked to human development, both technologically and socially. The composition of waste has varied over time and location, with industrial development. Examples of this include plastics. Some garbage has economical value and can be recycled once correctly recovered.
For most of us, "out of sight, out of mind": throw it away and it`s gone. But imagine what really happens to all the rubbish the world throws away. Now suddenly, the government is worried about mountains of garbage piling up with no place to put them all.
China`s increasing prosperity and urbanism create tons of garbage since the 1980s,causing tons of trouble. The amount of paper, plastic and other garbage has increased more than three times in two decades to about 300 million tons a year.As busy families are shifting from fresh to packaged foods, more garbage is expected.
There are also a huge number of people who go through the garbage to find anything that can be of value and recycled! The recycling is carried out every day when people come to your house to take away your newspapers and cardboard, plastic and metal items. Every neighborhood has a garbage point. Take a train trip and there are recycling yards all along the tracks in every city. Food waste is collected by farmers to feed animals.
Even though we make an effort to recycle our solid waste, the amount of waste keeps increasing each year. Our biggest problem is where to put the solid waste and how to keep it from polluting our environment. If the solid waste is disposed incorrectly, it can pollute earth`s surface an underground water supplies. Currently, Our municipal waste goes to landfills or garbage dumps.
The waste must be treated to keep rats, flies and other animals from building their homes in the landfills. The treatment also prevents the growth of bacteria that carry diseases.
The government knows such garbage disposal(处理)will always draw complaints. What they need to do is invest more money into building and maintaining better environment

A. garbage should all be thrown away
B. garbage can all be recycled for its economical value

C. the government has trouble dealing with rubbish
D. landfill treatment is the best way at present
55. In the 1980s,the amount of garbage was estimated about _______.
A.300 million tons&&&&& B.200 million tons&&&&

A Chinese graduate's record-setting $ 8,888,888 donation to his school at Yale University has caused wide debate at home. While some say it's up to Zhang Lei to do as he likes, others question why he didn't donate to his alma mater(母校)in Beijing.
Zhang, who graduated from the Yale School of Management (SOM)in 2002, worked for the Yale Investments Office under Chief Investment Officer David Swensen. In 2005, Zhang founded Hillhouse Capital Management Ltd, a Beijing-based investment fund that manages&$ 2.5 billion.
Yale School of Management President Richard Levin and Yale School of Management Dean Sharon M. Oster were in Beijing last week with Zhang when he announced his donation. They were taking part in a panel discussion called "Investing in the Middle Kingdom".
Levin said: "This truly extraordinary and lucky gift reflects the deep commitment to Yale University that Zhang&Lei shares with so many fellow graduates of the Yale School of Management. Zhang Lei's generosity also represents a significant step toward the realization of the SOM's new campus."
The donation will primarily help build the new SOM campus, while a portion will provide scholarship support for the International Relations Program at Yale's new Jackson Institute of Global Affairs, as well as fund a variety of China-related activities at the university.
Opinions at home have been split in online forums since the story broke a few days ago. On pinggu. org,a forum run by Renmin University of China where Zhang was enrolled (注册)as a student of International Finance in 1989, netizens including graduates of the university have taken sides.
Some asked why Zhang, who graduated from Yale University less than 10 years ago, chose an overseas institution rather than his Chinese university for the donation. But a larger group of online users voiced support for Zhang's move and said there is still room for improvement regarding management of universities in China.
