His fiery temper, stocky build and hit TV shows set Gordon Ramsay apart from his British counterparts in the culinary world.But the notoriously foul-mouthed Scottish chef could be about to meet his match – in the form of a Frenchman with a remarkably similar back story.Ramsay is to take over a restaurant in Bordeaux – directly opposite another that’s set to welcome new chef Philippe Etchebest.The pair share more in common than their cooking skills.Scroll down for video

Ramsay, of Johnstone, Renfrew-shire, will run Le Pressoir d’Argent restaurant in the five-star Grand Hotel de Bordeaux Hotel and Spa.Etchebest will be in charge of the kitchen at Le Café Opera from September. He said: ‘I laughed when I heard that Gordon Ramsay will be opposite me. It’s an incredible coincidence and I’m absolutely delighted.’But he insisted they would not be competing for the same diners, since Le Café Opera is a brasserie and Le Pressoir d’Argent is one of the most chic establishments in Bordeaux.The French chef won two Michelin stars at his former restaurant in Saint-Emilion.He began presenting Cauchemar en Cuisine (Kitchen Nightmare) four years ago.The Gordon Ramsay Group runs 25 restaurants around the world, including his flagship establishment in London, which boasts three Michelin stars.Despite this, a French regional newspaper has reported that Ramsay will oversee the menu at Le Pressoir d’Argent and visit regularly.

Speaking on his company website, Ramsay said: ‘I’m thrilled we are opening our second restaurant in France.‘To open a restaurant in the wine capital of France, with its world-class vineyards and regional produce, is extremely exciting.’After a knee injury put an end to his football career, Ramsay went back to college to complete a course in hotel management.In 1993, he became chef at the Aubergine restaurant in London. Five years later, he set up his first wholly-owned eponymous restaurant.Ramsay then branched out into television, presenting programmes including Hell’s Kitchen, The F Word and Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares.He recently appeared on James Cordon’s US chat show in Los Angeles – and claimed he never swore in front of his children.Ramsay lives with his wife Tana and their children Megan, 16, twins Jack and Holly, 15, and 13-year-old Tilly.Tilly has her own TV show on CBBC. Matilda & the Ramsay Bunch features her cooking simple, fun recipes such as burritos or cupcakes in the kitchen at their home in Los Angeles.According to Forbes magazine, Ramsay is believed to be worth ?31milion – but other sources suggest it is twice as much.
