15 Hidden Health Secrets of Lemons
15 Hidden Health Secrets of Lemons
By Theresa Cheung
Did you know the Ancient Egyptians believed that eating lemons and drinking lemon juice was an effective protection against a variety of poisons, and that recent research has confirmed this belief?
There are many health benefits of lemons that have been known for centuries. The two biggest are lemons’ strong antibacterial, antiviral, and immune-boosting powers and their use as a
aid because lemon juice is a digestive aid and liver cleanser. Lemons contain many substances--notably citric acid, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, bioflavonoids, pectin, and limonene--that promote immunity and fight infection.
These are well-known
facts about lemons. But there’s so much more to this little yellow fruit. Here are 15 that I’ll bet you didn’t know. Whether you use them in the form of juice, teas, drinks, dressing, poultices or in the bath, take advantage of lemons’ natural healing power.
Medical Precautions Note: If you suffer from heartburn, kidney or gall bladder problems or have a citrus allergy consult your doctor before using these remedies or drinking lemon juice. To protect your teeth enamel, wait at least half an hour before brushing your teeth after chewing, drinking or rinsing with lemon juice. Rubbing lemon juice or oil and drinking lemon juice is not suitable for children under the age of 10. Lemons are effective home remedies for a variety of health concerns but in the case of serious illness always consult your doctor first.

How many teaspoons equal one tablespoon?
Quick Answer
There are three teaspoons in a tablespoon. That means that there are 1.5 teaspoons in a 1/3 tablespoon, and 1/3 of a tablespoon is a single teaspoon.
Each tablespoon contains three teaspoons. This makes it easy for cooks and bakers to substitute measurements if their tablespoon measure is broken or missing. Each teaspoon should be leveled off, making sure that whatever being measured reaches the top of the spoon but doesn't exceed the amount of a single tablespoon. In general, there are two tablespoons to the ounce. Similarly, there are 16 tablespoons in one cup, which equates to 48 teaspoons, and two cups to the pint.

When measuring dry ingredients or liquids, 6 teaspoons, or 2 tablespoons, is equal to 1 ounce. This converts to 30 grams when using a metric measurement. While many American cookbooks use volume to measure ingredients, throughout much of the world, weight is more commonly used to measure ingredients for cooking.
