we'd like to apologize for the months of quietness -- we've been hard at work taking your advice to heart and refining our little game further and further beyond! after a long wait, though, our update is finally ready to be experienced! we've sent our new build, v1.7u, off to our distributors to be uploaded to Steam!

Profile system update to make menus slightly less cumbersome (we're in the middle of a FULL re-build but we didn't have time to get it in this update)

Massive updates to enemy AI and attack patterns
Major stat rebalancing for the whole cast
A ton of visual updates
our update was planned on being a lot bigger, but some of the system reconstructions took a little longer than planned, as well as some personal issues that got in the way (which, at this point, we are slowly learning that this is unavoidable when you want to be both a game developer and a human being), but we know that a bunch of bug fixes have been waiting for a while, and we want to make sure we cover those bases and let you guys know that we're far from dead. :)
a full change log will be coming up later today that covers every single change that we've made!
for now, if you're updating this game from v1.5, we request a we've updated our profile system a bit, and the v1.5 version is now super outdated, so in order for this update to work properly, you'll have to go into your AppData/Local/JOYLANCER folder and delete the contents and remake your profiles / re-assign your binds. we know that this is a huge pain in the butt, but you likely won't have to deal with these kinds of issues once the game leaves Early Access.

+ Slightly modified Dark Palace (Antoria Woods) waves to lower their difficulty
+ Demo version of game updated to latest version
~ Added speed resistance to lance attacks when hitting strong / armored enemies
~ &Speed-Slide& no longer registers on strong / armored enemies (caused bugs)
~ Greatly increased how much damage a thrown enemy inflicts on other enemies
~ Lance-Drop's &explosion& effect now triggers on all Lance-Drop attacks (Lv3 & 4 have visual effects too)
~ Slightly increased damage of Lv1 lance attack
also, we are officially announcing that we've reached the next stage of Joylancer development and we will be resuming our frequent updates again very soon! we're very happy to have made it this far despite all the personal and financial struggles we've had to deal with in the time we've been making this exciting little game.
we are currently aiming for a June 2015 release, so start getting some practice in now and get ready for the full version of the game to launch!

unique, and it is obvious that this dev cares deeply about this game, and has put A LOT of love into it, but it isnt for everyone. it takes a bit of getting used to the controls and mechanics, but once you get it revved up and going, the game really starts to shine. if you are not using the mechanics correctly, then it will probably suck for you, but it is a solid game, and only getting better. menus are indeed a bit strange, but nothing that patience can not overcome. if your not already attracted to it enough to buy it, then wait until full release, but if your thinking its worth a try, then give it a shot and stick with it, and the gameplay will shine.

The music, the sound effects, the playstyle... everything about this game is GO-GO-GO-GOThe game was almost like a hilarious workout when I started, but once I became more familiar with the moveset and how to counter enemy attacks, the controls started to feel natural and I realized how much of a gem this game could really be.VERY excited to see how Joylancer develops - but already recommended even in this Early Access state.

A seriously fantastic 2D character action game with some admittedly pretty complex and at times precise inputs. Or you can just REV IT UP and smash buttons to blow things up. Some of the platforming inputs get a bit complex to the annoying side for me, though, so like 90% of the fun I get from this game is just going into places and smashing a ton of enemies.

Early Access Review
You would like this game if you are into combo-based fighting games, or are a speedrunner. Figuring out the menus is currently a nightmare. Navigating the overworld is pretty confusing too. This game has a lot of potential, but it is currently massively hindered by poor UX. I didn't find the tutorials other people are mentioning, but I bet that would be extremely useful because I had no clue what was happening in the game.Additionally, when looking for a 4-player couch co-op game, it really needs to have good UX because if even 1 player doesn't completely understand what they're doing it ruins the entire experience for everyone. IMO if you're looking for a casual 4-player game for when you have friends over I would not consider this game at all. If you have friends over who are all experienced with this game and know exactly what's going on, then you'd be fine.Looking forward to the release of the game to see how these issues are resolved, but I just don't think this game is for me.
