The 13th Annual China Automotive Industry Forum 2015
The Chinese Auto Sector: Connectivity, Mobility & Smart Cities
With by far the largest auto market in the world – and still growing faster than almost any other market – China is exerting growing influence over the development of the global automotive market and key global automotive trends. For example, it is clear now that China is bound to become a major force in the development and roll-out of new power train technologies such as electrical vehicles. And the same might well happen with another key industry trend: the development of the connected car and the improvement of mobility through connectivity.
Young customers all over the world including in China, are increasingly demanding that their cars become part and instrument of their ‘connected lives’. This brings new demands to car producers and also opens opportunity for new entrants who have a better understanding of customers’ requirements in this respect. At the same time, the nature of the basic function of automotion, namely mobility - is changing dramatically. Congested cities, in China more than in any country in the world, require different ways of moving their population, with an increased role for public transport, different ways of shared transport, and in many cases some type of restriction on car usage. The global automotive industry cannot ignore these trends, and is actually an active participant through the integration of the new demands of both customers and regulators in their product and service offering. In China we are at the early stages of what could well become a major driving force in the development of the connected car.
Chinese regulators and automotive companies actually are paying increasing attention to mobility efficiency and customer demands for connectivity. China has by far the largest population of ‘connected consumers’ in the world, with currently 649 million people with internet access – of which 557 million people through mobile devices. This is expected to increase to over 900 million by 2020. In addition China is also the country with the largest concentration of large cities in the world, with currently 104 cities with over 5 million inhabitants – and with 7 supercities (Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Chengdu and Tianjin) with over 15 million inhabitants. Chinese automotive and internet companies such as Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent and LeTV have embarked on a large number of smart car related projects, either alone or in cooperation. While the extent and the depth of these efforts is not clear it yet, it seems likely that this will go from strengthening the connectivity of existing car models, to the development of completely new car models developed by internet companies. Not only will the global developments impact the Chinese market, but China should be in a position to influence, shape and possibly lead the global development of connectivity in the car sector.
In the 2015 Auto Forum we will address - from the perspectives of government officials, industry leaders and renowned academics - how connectivity and mobility will affect China’s auto industry, how this will interact with urban transport and mobility management, which new competences and business models this will require, and to which degree China could be a part and a driver of the changes which are occurring at global level.的海词问答和网友补充：
